2D Scan before 20 weeks

Viability Scan

An early scan can be performed to determine the location of the pregnancy, if there are more than one fetus and if there is visualization of  heartbeat (from 6 weeks).

The fetal length (CRL) is measured in order to establish an estimated date of delivery.

Nuchal Translucency Scan

If you wish an NT scan (nucal scan) this can be performed from week 11-14 in order to assess the risk of Down’s Syndrome.

The ultrasound scan involves a measurement to accurately ascertain your baby’s gestational age. Your baby’s well-being and its environment will also be examined to eliminate any potential abnormalities and a specific measurement taken of the fluid filled space situated at the back of the baby’s neck (the nuchal fold).

This is then used to determine your individual risk factor. Although this result is not a definitive result, it allows you to make informed choices in managing your pregnancy. Note that an “increased-risk” screening result does not indicate with certainty that there is an abnormality and that most women with these results will still have normal healthy babies.

This examination may be supplemented or even replaced by the Harmony blood test. Read more about it here.

Gender Scan

Gender scan with guarantee is performed from 14 weeks. It may be possible to see the sex of the fetus earlier, but the guarantee involves a complimentary rescan if we are not 100% sure.

At every ultrasound scan we examine the fetus to rule out any malformations that may be visible at the given time.

A full bladder helps transmit sound waves and pushes the intestines out of the way of the uterus. This makes the ultrasound picture clearer.
